POMS Season Recap

POMS+Season+Recap

Despite challenges getting back together, the Marriotts Ridge Poms team will continue to have a great performing season. Similar to the dance or cheerleading teams, Poms is an elite dance team that is known for their use of pom-poms. Poms is a year-round sport performing in competitions and at sport events. They also perform at short line dances, school pep rallies, and football games.
“I like being a part of POMS because I like how I get to express myself creatively, bond with my teammates, improve my dancing abilities, the good energy I consume everyday from it and just really wanting to try out something new,” sophomore Jessica Francis said.
Poms has helped members to get out of their comfort zones- not just with dancing but with connecting with others on the team. Good energy is what brings the student performers closer together as a team and leads them to success.
“After a good performance I feel very accomplished and very happy that all the hard work I put in paid off. The emotions I get when we perform is so exciting and enthusiastic,” junior Danielle Harris said. “I feel so proud because we learned so much in such a short amount of time and based on what happened with the flooding and how we had to change locations. We still made it work, and it turned out to be an amazing season.”
The adrenaline and happiness during performances is something the team raved about. The students loved to see their future and past progress. Many of the Poms teammates have had backgrounds in their love of dance.
“Dancing has always been something that I’ve found peace in; joining POMS fulfills that peace. I’ve been dancing since I was 3, and that is something that will always be a part of me no matter what. It calms me down and gets me motivated to do other things,” junior Anisa Wilson said.
As Anisa Wilson put it, dancing really helps her with not just getting better at what she does but also with supporting personal relationships. Since she has been dancing for so long, it’s all just natural for her when she performs or learns new moves.
The Poms team members are doing what they love to do and making connections that will last. As a team, they have worked through a lot to get to where they are now and are waiting to see what the next season brings.
