Marriotts Ridge Congratulates the Victories of the Girls Sports Teams
With fall sports events up and running at Marriotts Ridge, students should be taking a look at the girls’ sports teams. They are all having incredible seasons.
“For the team, it’s pretty awesome, we’ve only been down once but otherwise we’re undefeated right now,” senior volleyball player Sela Hale said on October 8th, 2022.
As of right now the Marriotts Ridge girl’s volleyball The key to winning games this season has been keeping a positive attitude and making sure to uplift teammates. Words of encouragement always make a huge difference in the way someone plays.
The girl’s volleyball team has been dominating this season with an overall record of 8-0, sweeping most of their games in just three sets. The reason for their huge success is the abundance of teamwork and sound tactics utilized throughout their games.
“The biggest thing is getting your mentality ready before you play your sport because it is a completely different mindset from the classroom,” Hale said.
The fall sports season at the beginning of every school year is always a busy time for athletes. With practice and homework, it’s a lot for everyone.
“Any days where we have practice and a lot of homework, coach lets us go home early to get it done. That makes it easier to balance both school and soccer,” JV soccer player and freshman Mahira Rahman said.
It’s never easy juggling a sport with school, but the girls this season know how to pull through and push themselves to be the best they can.
This hard work has paid off for the Varsity girl’s soccer team. They got off to a great start, beating Hammond 8-0 in their season opener. They haven’t slowed down since that first success, scoring 56 goals in just 11 games while only giving up 4 games. They secured a 10-1 season and with it the title of county champions.
The JV team was close behind, working their way to a 6-3-1 record and winning some key games. In particular, their second game against Long Reach gave the team a close 3-2 win, and with it, momentum to carry into the rest of the season.
“It felt really good to win against Long Reach, it was nice to get a win,” Rahman said.
To cap it off, the Marriotts Ridge Girls Field Hockey team has also had an amazing season. They boast an overall record of 7-3, winning their opener against Hereford, crushing Atholton 9-0, and taking care of Mount Hebron in a 5-1 blowout.
The girls sports teams at Marriotts Ridge have dominated the county. They have all put up great regular season records and are ready to perform during the upcoming playoffs. They’ll face off against the best teams in state, but the players are confident and ready to finish the season strong.
