Recently announced couple Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have won over the hearts of many across both fanbases. The news surrounding the match has rapidly spread throughout the internet and has gained immense popularity, even among students at Marriotts Ridge.
Students’ initial feelings surrounding Swift and Kelce were overwhelmingly positive; the pair seems to be a huge deal to more than just beloved fans. While many didn’t see this duo coming, they love the surprise alliance.
“My initial reaction was surprise, I heard him talking about her on [his] podcast but didn’t think it would become a real thing, and then I was like, wow, that’s a real thing,” junior Olivia Ober explained.
With the news being fairly recent many first heard of the rumors surrounding the couple on the popular social media app TikTok, a platform where people share and watch reels and videos. Even those not on social media are aware of the relationship from others due to the publicity from sports channels and networks.
“I heard about it on TikTok when he went to the concert and made her the bracelet. I heard about it then but didn’t think anything would come out of it,” junior Natasha Randhawa explained.
With this match came a very positive response from the football community. The NFL took it upon themselves to go as far as to create a short introduction before the start of the game, explaining to several Swift fans the inner workings of football so they too can enjoy watching the event.
“I like it, I like Travis Kelce a lot, I’m glad he was able to find someone he likes…I think it will be good and work out,” senior Quinn Jenkins said.
Publicity stunt or not, some concerns around the couple pointed out the possibility that their relationship was purely a means to attract attention for the NFL, with Kelce’s merchandise sale going up 400% after the dating allegations first surfaced.
“A lot more people have started coming to his games, and his jersey sales have gone up a bunch since dating her,” Jenkins stated.
Though many support this relationship, some feel as if it is not the right match. Both celebrities are beloved by many, but some people are not sure if this relationship is correct for the both of them. In fact, some students don’t see Swift and Kelce lasting for a long time.
“I don’t think they’re gonna last more than two months,” junior Trijal Pinninti claimed.
Swifties at Marriotts Ridge had much more to say about Swift and Kelce’s relationship and possible speculations about why it will work out in the long run. With Swift’s lucky and favorite number being 13, and Kelce’s jersey number being 87, together they make 100. Another coincidence is that Kelce is Swift’s 13th boyfriend, yet another sign to many fans that this relationship will be lasting. Along with these theories, students understand the dynamic between the stars and the idea of Swift and Kelce, understanding that with this new relationship comes online hate and tabloids constantly creating rumors.
“They’re both socially present in their respective communities…they’re well known, so they’d be able to understand the responsibilities that come with that,” sophomore Dana Lee explained.
The question of Swift and Kelce still remains, “to be or not to be?” Students at Marriotts Ridge will not yet know what’s to come of this relationship; however, Swift and Kelce’s dynamic has certainly been etched into the minds of fans for years to come. Fans will simply have to wait and see if this romance is meant to be.
