On November 11th, Mustangs gathered to share stories that hit close to home. Students with parents who have walked the path of service, sparked conversations about what Veteran’s Day means to them and why it should matter to everyone. Veteran’s Day is more than a day off, it is a chance to connect with the real stories of those behind the uniforms.
“This day is important to me because of people like my parents. I like seeing them get appreciation and recognition,” freshman Jesus Mirabel explained.
Mirabal emphasized the importance of celebrating Veteran’s Day as a representation for those who serve our country. For him, the day is impactful because it makes their service feel worthwhile, providing the much-needed appreciation for the sacrifices Veteran’s have made.
“It’s important to raise awareness for people that fight for our country and it’s important to make sure that they get rewarded as well,” sophomore Sara Kachiwalla expressed.
Beyond Veteran’s Day, Kachiwalla suggested that individuals and communities can support veterans by educating themselves on the different veterans in their community, asking them about their experiences, and advocating for their healthcare issues and insurance. She emphasized that supporting veterans should be an ongoing effort, extending beyond a single day of celebration.
“Veteran’s day is just a reminder to everyone how much the military is fighting for us, and how thankful we should be,” sophomore Joseph Petrae shared.
Petrae stressed the need to show appreciation and love for veteran services regularly. He suggests simple acts, such as thanking anyone in active duty uniform, can make a significant difference in brightening their mood.
“In the end, they made a sacrifice for us and it should definitely be celebrated,” sophomore J.P. Yeich claimed.
Forming relationships with veterans and emphasizing the role of charities in supporting struggling veterans are very beneficial. Yeich highlights the significance of remembering not only the living veterans but also those who have been lost, acknowledging their contribution to paving the way for the freedom we enjoy today.
During this day, these Mustangs remind us that it’s not just a day off but an opportunity to appreciate, recognize and support those who have sacrificed for our freedom. Beyond the festivities, their insights shed light on the ongoing challenges veterans face and how communities can extend their support throughout the year. Let Veteran’s Day serve as a starting point for a continuous conversation and action towards honoring and supporting those who have served.
