One of the many newer clubs to join the Marriotts Ridge High School extracurriculars is Fashion Club. Fashion Club is perfect for those who want to take part in self expression, fun runways, games and creativity.
“You can look forward to runways, fit checks and maybe a possible feature at multicultural night,” senior and Fashion Club President, Jacob Riggs hinted excitedly.
While Fashion Club is a new club, they have already had two meetings, their first meeting being an introduction to the club and finishing with making paper hats using colorful paper and markers.
“I have been really interested in fashion since covid and the new trends lately, so I could not wait to join this club,” junior Emily Kim responded.
Fashion Club has many goals, not just for the club, but for members to take away and apply to their lives outside of Fashion Club.
“We want to inspire confidence through fashion,” senior and Fashion Club Vice President, Matthew Won, said.
He hopes that with this club, people gain confidence and creativity when it comes to their fashion style. Won hopes that self expression becomes easier and without being worried about others’ gaze or judgment.
“I really want to learn to be influenced by peers and learn how to be more fashionable while staying within my budget,” junior and Fashion Club Historian, Zoya Ali, shared.
Fashion Club also wants people to have incentives and enjoy prizes. For example, at their second meeting during flex time, they gave everyone a chance to show off their best outfits and styles, and let everyone give feedback and compliments to each other. This activity was a great way to build community and encourage the members of the group to become friends and represent who they are through clothes. At the end of the meeting, everyone received candy to celebrate the club.
“I hope to learn how to style myself better so I can look more presentable at school,” Kim explained.
She hopes that with this club, she will learn different styles that she had not known much about previously, possibly incorporating them into her style. Fashion Club also encourages members to learn about controversial topics that are prevalent in the fashion industry.
“We are going to be talking about a lot of influential fashion related topics, such as fast fashion, and debating about them. We will also discuss the environmental effects of fashion and other topics like that,” Ali explained.
She hopes that Fashion Club will be able to shed some light on these serious and controversial topics to the other members, possibly making a difference in the prevention of certain issues.
Overall, Fashion Club is a club made for everyone. Whether one’s reason for joining is learning about fashion, making friends, learning about controversial topics or simply wanting some free candy, Fashion Club has something for any group of people.
