OG’s assemble! Original Fortnite has returned and is better than ever. On November 3, Epic Games returned the original map and guns to the game. Former players return in outstanding numbers to play the game they remember.
“I remember I created my account back in season three because all my friends were raving about it,” senior Yeale Biruk recounted about season 3 of fornite in 2018.
Returning to the game once again after a long break, Biruk was eager to enjoy the game he had once loved. Many players are returning to the game since it has reverted to its 2018 map. With Fortnite’s popularity being at an all-time low in a last-ditch effort, the developers decided to revert the game to its prime.
“I can’t wait to drop into Shifty Shafts and get some VicRoys,” senior Jack VanTine stated
The ever-growing complexity of the previous map deterred many players from Fortnite. Many of the weapons in Fortnite had grown lackluster. Players needed a change.
A favorite landing location of many Fortnite players, old and new, Salty Springs brings back a nostalgic feeling of the previous map. Players can now land back at their favorite OG spots and rotate around the map, rediscovering the island all over again.
“I love to land at the ruined house in salty because there can be three chests, and not many people land there,” recounted sophomore Mason Machiran.
With overwhelming support for the new season, old players are now facing the players who never left. With these players being referred to as “sweats,” they are discouraging the old player base due to how dominant they are during games.
The original guns being brought back helps balance out the skill gap between the OG’s and the “sweats.” Many guns have had their damage and firing rates decreased.
“The tactical shotgun is the perfect fit for me. Fast firing and hard-hitting OG gun has brought me many victory royals this season,” said senior William Marbray.
The OG players were experienced with the map and the weapons, giving them the upper hand over the newer players who were experiencing OG Fortnite for the first time. Using these tactical advantages, OG players were able to make up the difference in skill and still enjoy the season.
Only time will tell if this change will keep OG players around; much speculation hints that once the season ends, a large chunk of the fanbase will leave along with the map. As of December 2nd, Fortnite chapter five is underway, and there are mixed feelings about it.
“I think that chapter five is overheating, new guns and mechanics give the game a fresh new twist,” pronounced VanTine.
While some players are optimistic about the new season, others are critical about the guns, map, and movement mechanics.
“The map is far too large, and some of the guns are too overpowered. I just can’t seem to get any wins.” Voiced Marbary.
Only time will tell whether OG Fortnite players will stick around and see season five through. One thing is for sure: season four was a fun-filled look into the past and allowed players to play the version of the game they loved.
