Many people around the world stay up the night of December 31st to ring in the New Year. For some, it is a time of celebration. For others, it is a time to reflect on the past and make new goals for the future. These goals are commonly referred to as New Year’s resolutions. Many people try to keep these goals as motivation for what they plan to do in the upcoming year. Students shared their thoughts on New Year’s resolutions.
New Year’s resolutions can differ from year to year, as well as person to person. Someone’s New Year’s resolutions could be to get in the gym and focus on fitness. Others could be focused on getting better grades, or other forms of self-improvement. Many people also have reasons why the resolution that they chose resonates with them.
“My New Year’s resolution is all about my self-improvement. Hitting the gym, getting better grades, doing sprints, playing more chess and reading more books. I just want to continue what I’m doing and focus more on myself,” sophomore Surya Maroju said.
Sometimes people don’t stay true to their resolutions, but others power through, and finally, get a hold of their resolution and achieve it. One can feel like they achieved something in their life when, against all the odds, they fulfilled their New Year’s resolution.
“In the past, one of my New Year’s resolutions was to enjoy life more and spend more time with friends outside. I managed to stick to this goal, and I fulfilled it,” junior Davi Bastos said.
Others also have managed to complete their New Year’s resolutions and achieve a sense of fulfillment.
“So, I used to be 114 pounds, so I gained a lot of weight and got big. Then I went on a cut and I got some muscle mass. So I think I did really well on my New Year’s resolution. It was hard and I had to pressure myself to go to the gym, but in the end, it was worth it,” junior Wajahat Hasnain said.
Other people have challenges that hinder their progress in achieving their resolution.
“For my New Year’s resolution to go outside, the weather may be cold sometimes and then may deter me from going outside. So the weather is a challenge for me,” junior Carlos Riberas said.
Many people believe that New Year’s resolutions are good for their well-being. They might feel more motivated, and experience increased physical and mental health. They also help a person stay active and on track to achieve yearly goals.
“I think that New Year’s resolutions are good because they help you achieve your goals and things you want to do in life,” junior Summer Hale said.
New Year’s resolutions are not just for individuals; however, they could also be for organizations, groups of people and schools. They could range from improving the group’s infrastructure to changing the group or institution as a whole.
“I think one thing we should change is to give us more time in the mornings so we can get up from school and get some more sleep,” senior Ishan Dhawan said.
Other people describe different New Year’s resolutions for the school.
“I think we should make the bathrooms a little cleaner. It’s not been in its best shape right now, especially the bathrooms, so I think we need to fix that,” senior Enis Isakovic said.
New Year’s resolutions serve as a beacon of hope and motivation for many. They are a testament to the human spirit, a constant pursuit of self-improvement and personal growth. Whether it’s about hitting the gym, improving grades or spending more time outdoors, these resolutions reflect student’s aspirations and the steps they are willing to take toward achieving them. Despite the challenges that may arise, such as a lack of motivation or unfavorable weather conditions, the determination to stick to these resolutions often leads to a sense of fulfillment and well-being.
