AfterProm, the exciting party that juniors and seniors at Marriotts Ridge High School get the option to attend, is going to be held at Main Event in the Columbia Mall. Main Event is a place with an arcade, laser tag, and bowling as their main three attractions. With the comparison to last year’s AfterProm at Stratosphere Social, there seems to be mixed opinions on whether or not it is worthwhile to attend After Prom this year.
“Main Event has activities that I think could be fun for AfterProm, but I also feel like it’s a place I could go to at any time,” junior Natalie Shin stated.
Main Event offers activities that aren’t necessarily unique, and this seems to be an issue for some students, stating that they can attend Main Event whenever they would like and that the night wouldn’t feel as special. Many students are comparing this year’s Prom to last year’s, bringing up the venue for the actual Prom, which was the Baltimore Stadium.
“I don’t think Main Event is a good place for AfterProm. When you compare it to Prom last year at the Baltimore Stadium, this is a downgrade,” junior Madison Gaither explained disappointingly.
Baltimore Ravens Stadium seemed to be a massive hit last year as a venue for the Prom, along with “Stratosphere Social” for the AfterProm. Many students are comparing these two venues to Main Event and wish that this year was a bit more extravagant, believing Main Event to be a childish place.
“Honestly, Main Event is like Chuck E. Cheese for 12-year-olds-to-me,” sophomore Edgar Clarke III complained. To him, the Main Event seems like a place too young for a high school AfterProm.
“I think an Aquarium would be a cooler place for After Prom,” Clarke III explained. He, and many other students, said alternatives for After Prom or After Prom that they believe would fit what high schoolers are interested in a little more. Another criticism about Main Event as a Prom venue was the size, as it is a relatively small place compared to some suggestions that students gave.
“I think a better place for AfterProm would be Adventure Park USA,” Gaither said.
Other students also explained that they probably will not be attending AfterProm, as they would rather go to a party that a friend is hosting instead. That way, they have more options and less restraints with how they are able to celebrate.
“I will probably go to a friend’s AfterProm party instead of Main Event,” Gaither explained.
Despite the students who are not thrilled about the choice of venue for this year’s AfterProm, many students are still excited to attend, as this would be their first Prom and AfterProm experience.
“I do understand if some people are not as excited about this year’s AfterProm; however, me personally, I think an arcade is classic and something that everybody can participate in,” junior Amrei Greer explained.
While there are mixed opinions on whether or not this year’s AfterProm venue is exciting, or just another place, Prom and AfterProm are popular events that are sure to have juniors and seniors alike having a blast to celebrate this time in their lives.
