With the end of senior year approaching, events start piling up, leaving Mustangs excited for what’s to come.
Nearing the end of senior year, events such as prom, senior picnic, and graduation start to book up senior’s calendars, leaving seniors with mixed emotions about their final year at MRHS ending.
Prom the first of many senior events, is on May 3rd at Martins West Banquet Hall. Prom is an event hosted by the class of 2025 class council for upperclassmen. Prom is a night filled with dancing, dressing up, and hanging out with friends. This event has been a tradition for many years, and many students plan for their night to be perfect multiple months in advance.
“I’m looking forward to prom. Even though there’s still four months till prom, I’ve already bought my dress and have planned who I’m going with,” explained senior Aleena Mirza.
Many students are looking forward to prom, but some wonder if they are going this year due to the venue. Last year, prom was hosted at the Ravens Stadium. This year, prom is hosted at Martins West. Some students have mixed feelings about this year’s venue choice because the event is hosted at a banquet with tables and seating rather than the open stadium.
“I was excited about prom, but I’m honestly turned off by the venue choice this year. Last year, it was at the stadium, which was fun, but this year, I don’t know how I feel about the hall,” said senior Reshy Retty.
Despite the many different emotions associated with prom. Another event coming up for the seniors is the senior picnic, which the class of 2024 also hosts. The picnic is at the end of the school year and is a way for the seniors to say goodbye to their friends and classmates with whom they’ve spent the last four years. Food will be served to the seniors so they can hang out with each other outdoors. There will be games and entertainment as well.
“I’m looking forward to the senior picnic, but at the same time, I feel like it’s going to be sad just because this may be the last time I’ll see some of these people,” said senior Tarun Veermarchani.
The last senior event on the list is graduation, hosted a couple of days after the seniors’ last day of school. The graduation ceremony is the student’s final goodbye as they walk across the stage, collecting their diplomas and saying goodbye to everyone at MRHS before they go their separate ways.
“Graduation is something I’ve been looking forward to since virtual 9th grade. I’m excited to start college and a new chapter in my life,” said Mirza.
On the other hand, some students are sad about leaving Marriotts Ridge behind.
“I’m honestly a little sad about graduating. I feel like I’ve grown up with many of these people, and now we’re all going on different paths, and I may never see some of these people again,” explained senior Yash Santosh.
With the graduation date still up in the air, students are anxiously waiting for what’s to come next for them.
From prom night to graduation ceremonies, each event allows seniors to create lasting memories with friends and loved ones as their final year at MRHS comes to an end.
