Milk, a magical elixir, is used to heal and strengthen bones. It is filled with nutrients, and has allowed humans to grow and get stronger for generations. Milk is a wonderful liquid athletes drink. With plenty of new variants, milk has become more inclusive to all.
For thousands of years, milk has been a staple for human consumption. It is a natural and nutrient-rich source of vitamins and minerals, especially calcium, essential for maintaining healthy bones and teeth. Milk is a versatile product that can be consumed on its own or used in cooking and baking to add flavor and nutrition to a wide range of recipes.
“I have been drinking milk consistently for the past couple years… when I was a child, however, I didn’t drink a lot of milk and I didn’t feel as strong. When I broke my hand my mom told me to start drinking more milk to grow my bones stronger. And besides wrestling season I drink milk everyday,” said senior Michael Pinos.
Pinos is not alone, many others in the Marriotts Ridge community drink milk to keep their bone health up. Many also drink milk for the 13 essential nutrients it provides. Milk can also help those who spend time in the weight room, as it is known to build strength.
“When I first started drinking milk in 2022 my bench [press] went from 185 [pounds] to 225 [pounds] in three weeks. And I really do love milk,” explained sophomore Markus Hollis.
Hollis has been working out consistently for his football season, and after having not seen progress in the weight room, he started to drink milk. It has become a habit in his life, drinking at least two cups of milk before he heads off to school.
The health benefits from milk are extraordinary. However some students cannot get over the taste of the regular two percent milk. Rather drinking a cup of strawberry milk instead.
“Strawberries make it healthy, and milk makes my bones strong,” emphasized senior Christian Luke.
Despite the higher sugar content, milk remains a good source of essential nutrients, just like its two percent milk counterpart. So, even if you opt for a sweeter version of milk, you can still reap the benefits of its nutritional value.
“After my surgery for my leg I drank a lot of chocolate milk and it helped me recover calcium from the calcium,” exclaimed sophomore Mason Machiran.
Despite the various options available, some students tend to avoid drinking milk regardless of its sweetness.
“I just think the texture and the flavor of it is repulsive,” said junior Lamees Bazzi.
Some students have had a history of suffering from fractures or broken bones, which may have been caused by a deficiency of calcium in their body. Calcium is a crucial mineral that plays a vital role in maintaining bone strength and density. When the body lacks sufficient calcium, bones become brittle and fragile, making them more vulnerable to fractures and breaks.
Milk is a beverage that is packed with nutrients and is incredibly versatile. It provides numerous health benefits, as it contains high levels of protein that help build and repair muscle tissue, while also supplying calcium and vitamin D that support strong teeth and bones. In addition, milk is a great source of essential vitamins and minerals that promote overall health and well-being. For students at Marriotts Ridge High School, milk plays a crucial role in maintaining a healthy and balanced diet, helping them stay energized and focused throughout the day.
