On May 3, 2024, the long awaited Prom finally arrived. Students had been anticipating the dance for months prior.
“I [was] looking forward to prom because it’s such a memorable night and really is a high school milestone. I also love dancing, so I always have a lot of fun at school dances,” Senior Meghan Larsen said. She had bought her dress three weeks prior and was excited to wear it.
Martin’s West, a grand hotel ballroom situated in Baltimore, provided dinner, dessert and lots of refreshments for the dancing students all night long.
“The venue was nice, and I think it superseded expectations as I hadn’t really seen many pictures of it. The vibe was very formal and boujee, and I think it was worth my time, preparation and money.” Senior Jacob Riggs shared. He, along with the majority of the participants, was glad that Prom gave him an opportunity to dress up nicely and just have fun after a stressful school year.
“I loved making memories with my friends on the dance floor, especially since the music was so energetic and fun. The pina colada and strawberry flavored drinks were a nice touch as well” Junior Anvita Pentakota said, after spending her time dancing and talking to her friends the whole evening long.
There was an assortment of sugary drinks and refreshing spa water for everyone to enjoy when they needed a break from the movement; plus they were ice cold and delicious.
Junior Clark Stinebaugh confidently declared that the best part of the night was “when Mr. Khouri danced to ‘Rasputin.’” Many students recommended the Russian song to the DJ after social studies teacher Mr. Khouri promised that he would join in on the dancing fun, but only to that song. He did not disappoint, and many laughed and jumped in a circle around him.
The venue also came with a photo booth that many students happily took advantage of.
“My favorite part of the night was going in the picture line and taking a picture with Mr.Sullivan, even though he looked a little scared lmao,” confirmed Riggs. People posed with masks, fake mustaches and glasses of all different shapes and colors, happy that they could take the printable photos home as memorabilia.
Prom is also a wonderful occasion for people to spend time with their dates. Junior Morgan Gaither spent the whole night with her date and said, “I was smiling and laughing the entire night. He was amazing.”
Not only was the dance an enormous success, but the Parent Teacher Association also organized an AfterProm at Main Event for those that wanted to keep the party going. Pizza, salad and more sweets than one could dream of were provided while students could take pictures, play laser tag, go bowling and experience different arcade games. There was also a raffle that all students could partake in, with prizes such as an iPad, a gaming computer, a $500 cash prize and many more.
Junior Hannah Tark, the winner of the iPad raffle, said, “The iPad was the one thing I’ve wanted, and I had been looking forward to the raffle since they announced it a month ago. I knew that was the prize I needed to have and was in total disbelief when I won it. I’m still telling everyone I talk to that I finally got an iPad.” Everyone crowded around the raffle tables at the end of the night and all the winners of prizes big and small were overjoyed when their numbers were called.
Overall, everyone who attended agreed that this prom had been a grandiose success.
