As the season peaks, the perseverance and dedication of Marriotts Ridge athletes has started to pay off. The rigorous training over the off-season has helped these student athletes to hone their skills and master their game. With the playoffs just around the corner, these athletes are bracing themselves to demonstrate their tenacity and resilience and move one step closer to the state championship. The excitement among the students is tangible, and they are eager to share their valuable insights and experiences on the current season.
Over the course of the off-season, boys lacrosse put in the work. During winter weekdays these student athletes have been working out in the weightroom for multiple hours a day afterschool. This work has been shown during their regular season, winning their in county games but having a tougher time with the out of county teams.
“I am very proud of my boys this season; they have worked their butts off during the off season and deserve these most recent wins. I am excited to see us in the playoffs and ready to win states,” captain of the boys lacrosse team senior Quinn Jenkins exclaimed.
Baseball has been making big strides this season. Losing 11 seniors from the prior year, this has affected the team’s morale, skill and overall teamwork. These young men have made tremendous strides with over half of the players starting on varsity, having not gotten playing time in years before. Players are excited to play and have been coming back from their losses this season.
“We had a suboptimal start to our season, however we plan to make big runs in the playoffs and get far in our region. We are better than our region however we haven’t been playing like it. Our team manager Will Ashbaugh said we need to change up the game plan before states,” emphasized Zach Vernick, senior on the baseball team.
The Softball team has also started strong as well. Having a dominant 12-4 regular season. They plan to turn up for the playoffs.
“I am extremely confident that we can compete with the best teams in the region, and if we put the work in, do not be surprised to see us hoisting the state championship trophy into the air later this year,” senior Brynne Mellady stated.
The team is excited for the start of playoffs, but they are making sure to take it one game at a time.
The track and field season is already off to a strong start. After a successful indoor season where multiple records were broken, the spring runners and throwers are carrying on with Ridge’s winning ways.
“This season has been so much fun! I have really enjoyed all the practices and spending time with my teammates,” senior Anna Hendrickson said.
The track and field team is tightly knit, and the athletes thoroughly enjoy competing with one another. With only a few regular season meets left, the runners are prepared for counties and regionals.
The playoffs are just around the corner for these Ridge athletes. Between practices, games, pasta parties, and bus rides, lifelong friendships are being built. Taking advantage of their opportunities to show out in front of a stadium full of fans, these students are enjoying their spring sports. Marriotts Ridge athletes are prepared and excited to excel in May.
