As the school year begins to come to a close, Marriott Ridge said goodbye to their Class of 2024. Graduating on May 28th, seniors were feeling bittersweet about leaving Marriotts Ridge after four long years. Students shared their feelings and thoughts about the Class of 2024.
While many seniors were excited to embark on a new journey at their prospective colleges, some were also feeling sad as they are leaving behind four years of memories with best friends, peers and teachers.
The Class of 2024 began their high school journey during the pandemic, and they have been through their ups and downs in figuring out the difficulties of in person schooling and socializing in the middle of their four years at MRHS. Regardless, they have persevered into becoming excellent students that made many at the school proud to be considered a MRHS student.
“[The seniors] were definitely dedicated and very nice to each other and really unified as a class despite the odds of starting high school in this virtual environment,” history teacher and 2024 class sponsor Ms. Costabile explained.
Though the pandemic may have been difficult for them, the Class of 2024 had certainly progressed and demonstrated what it means to be a Marriotts Ridge Mustang. Many students have followed amazing pathways that display their academic prowess, hard work and dedication over the years.
There was a bittersweet feeling to graduation, however, many seniors are certainly excited to start college and extend their education further.
“I’m very excited to go to college because it’s a new fresh start, but I know it will be sad leaving behind the people I know,” senior Brynne Mellady expressed.
This mix of emotions does not only come from the seniors, but the underclassmen who have become good friends with their senior class throughout the school year, either through sports or mixed grade classes.
“It’s weird to think that [the Class of 2025] are the upcoming seniors and that the old seniors are officially gone. I made so many close friendships over the past three years from sports, and it’s hard to think of the team without them,” junior Olivia Ober explained.
Many teachers have also had wonderful things to say about this year’s seniors. Seeing the seniors grow has been gratifying for many teachers, especially those who were able to communicate with them for all four years of their high school career.
“It was very rewarding to build relationships with students that I didn’t teach outside of the classroom and seeing so many of them grow from being freshmen to now seniors and leaving us… and ready to enter the world,” Ms.Costabile emphasized.
Many students at MRHS will certainly miss the Class of 2024. Their dedication and hard work can be something that other students aspire for and try to match in their future years as Marriotts Ridge. Marriotts Ridge has officially said goodbye to their seniors and looks forward to beginning the upcoming year with their new seniors.
