On May 12, Mothers Day, a cherished national holiday, presented an opportunity for daughters and sons to come together and carefully create a plan designed to make their mother feel special. Whether through a bouquet of roses, a dinner reservation or a heart warming gift, this day allowed mothers to get the special appreciation they deserve. To me, Mahira Rahman, and my co writer, Shaila Uddin, Mothers Day is one of the most memorable days of the year.
There is one person that has always been my hero and a role model in my life. As a daughter, there is no one else in the world that I, Mahira Rahman, look up to as much as my mother.
She has always filled our home with laughter, kindness, love, perseverance, courage and happiness. My mother went from having nothing as a child to receiving the whole world with her bubbly personality and many successes. As she’s guided me through these sixteen years I’ve been living, she has taught me many important lessons. She has always reminded me that if you work hard for something, you will always receive it. My mother consistently has had a positive attitude towards any obstacle that came her way, and has taught me the importance of determination and perseverance, which I have endlessly admired and strived to emulate.
My mom has worked day and night trying to carve out my siblings and my future to be the very best. She has worked around many extracurriculars to help us find our passion. I will never forget her cheers during every single one of my soccer games. She would stand out from the crowd as she cheered at the top of her lungs, recording the entire game and wearing the brightest smile whenever I scored. My mom has always been there with open arms to comfort me every time I feel lonely, lost, sad or any other negative feeling. I’ve learned through many situations that no one will be there for me the way my mom is, and always has been. Without her guidance, I would be totally lost and have no path to follow.
However, my mother is more than just a supportive parent, she is my best friend. She has never made it difficult for me to speak my mind, express my feelings and show her every side of myself. She has never failed to listen to every word that comes out of my mouth. Throughout my entire life, my mom has worked hard to make sure that I can become my own person, but I don’t think she ever realized that the person I most wanted to become was her.
The one most important person to me, Shaila Uddin, would be my mother. There has never been a time where she has failed me. On days I’m stressed out, she’ll be there ready to listen. When I’m feeling a little low, my mother will be there to cheer me up by treating me to Dunkin Donuts and a car drive. Any time I make an accomplishment, she’s the one waiting to congratulate me.
My mother has been one of the most influential people in my life. She started out in America with little to nothing, but she worked her way up, built herself a life, and now cherishes it everyday with our family. I want to be just like her, being able to get through any difficult task to get where I want to go. The main reason I work so hard, especially in school, is because of my mother. I want to make her feel proud, and like all the struggle from her past was worth it. I want to make her feel special and cared for because she makes me feel that way everyday.
My mother never fails at making people around her happy. She always offers my sister advice, and helps her through every struggle throughout high school. She’s always there for my little brother, where even on days that she’s busy, she’ll still sit down and play Monopoly with him. And for me, she always does everything in the best of my interest. Whenever she’s cooking, she makes the food the way I like to eat it. On days I’m super busy, she’ll make sure no one bothers me so I can focus. On my birthday, she’ll wake up at 12 AM in the morning, and will shower me with gifts and love.
I have never felt more fortunate to have my mother. She taught me everything I know, from how to use a toaster, to showing kindness to others and always trying my hardest. I have no clue what I would do without her, how I would even wake up for school without her. She’s the most remarkable woman I know, and forever will be. Happy Mother’s Day to the one woman I’m the most grateful to have in my life.
Hopefully daughters and sons took this special day to express their profound gratitude for the irreplaceable women who shaped their lives, their moms. Mothers are always there to support their children, to raise their children and to show what it’s like to be a mother, hardworking, compassionate and selfless. Mother’s day is dedicated to the moms who serve as role models for their children, and as everyone knows, these mothers truly deserve all the love and affection in the world.
