Many Seniors at Marriotts Ridge were excited for the 2024 annual Crabfeast, which took place September 25th in the school’s cafeteria where students were able to indulge in a variety of food and the all-you-can-eat crab. Crabfeast has been a tradition at MRHS since the beginning that many students look forward to, where they can wear fun shirts and decorate their own aprons for the occasion. Students shared their opinions on this highly anticipated event, and the planning that went into making the feast enjoyable for many students.
Considerable planning from the 2025 Class Council went into Crabfeast to make it an enjoyable event for all seniors. This year, the senior Class Council made it a goal to advertise other aspects of the event, like the fact that pizza was offered in order to make the Crabfeast more inclusive to those who might not eat crabs.
“This year we had pizza for our non-crab eaters. We wanted the event to be totally inclusive for the entire senior class as it is such a special moment for us all to bond,” senior and Class Council member Simar Saini mentioned.
Ultimately, Class Council’s advertising of the event was a success, as many seniors attended in order to enjoy a night of food and music with their friends. In fact, some seniors anticipated eating large amounts of food and prepared themselves to try everything offered at the feast.
“Even though I got home [from school] late that day, I made the conscious decision not to eat anything beforehand, that way I had more crab-eating stamina,” senior Michelle Zhang said.
Aside from the crabs offered at the event, many were surprised by-but also enjoyed-the variety of other foods provided at Crabfeast like the salad, green beans, pulled pork, pizza and seafood mac-n-cheese.
“I was also happily surprised by the amount of available food options other than crab. I remember being told there would be pizza, but I didn’t expect the pulled pork, green beans or seafood mac,” Zhang explained.
Many seniors also participated in several traditions that made the night more memorable. A common tradition that many seniors participated in was painting aprons with crab puns like “Holy crab we’re seniors” or “Let’s get crabby”.
“Painting the aprons was so fun. I met up with two of my friends on the half day and we brainstormed crab puns to use, and they turned out pretty nice,” senior Allie Bonier said.
While many did not paint aprons themselves, seeing others participate in a long-awaited senior tradition brought bittersweet feelings for the seniors this year.
“I loved watching everyone walk in with their decorated aprons. It’s been something that I’ve seen every year on Instagram and now we finally got a chance to do it ourselves,” senior Alex Nguyen commented.
This year’s senior Crabfeast was certainly considered a hit amongst many students. Seniors were able to enjoy delicious food and spend time with friends during this long awaited tradition at MRHS.
