The Homecoming Dance has been a long-awaited event allowing students to dress up and spend the night dancing with their friends. This year, Homecoming took place on September 28th with the theme of music genres. The dance featured a DJ, games in the commons, a variety of food and a photo booth that Mustangs were able to enjoy with their friends.
The MRHS Student Government Association (SGA) sent out a survey to all the grades to vote on the theme which would determine how the decorations would look.
“The theme music genres won, where each grade represented a different music genre. Seniors were rap, juniors were disco, sophomores were rock and freshmen were country,” said senior and SGA Vice President Grace Chen.
For many, this night was an opportunity to spend time with friends they might not regularly see and let loose for a night without having to worry about academics.
“The dance was so much fun and the music was so much better this year, but it was so hot and sweaty in the gym,” mentioned senior Samhita Kalla.
A big aspect of Homecoming is getting ready for it and meeting up with friends to take pictures before the dance.
“We went to a friend’s house to get ready together and then to The Shrine to take pictures with everyone,” shared sophomore Hasini Nellutla.
The Shrine of St. Anthony is a popular spot every year for students to meet up with their friends before Homecoming so they can take pictures.
“I feel like The Shrine is a good gathering place, so I went to take a bunch of pictures there. I saw a lot of my friends and a lot of people from other schools too at the Shrine,” said senior Sara Gajengi.
There’s a great deal to do at the actual event too, but many students shared how the DJ was good this year, so their favorite part was dancing in the gym.
“The music was very hype and I liked it a lot,” shared senior Amy Park.
In the cafeteria, Mustangs had the option to eat from a variety of foods either sitting inside or outside.
“I ate dinner before coming there so I only ate the snowcones and the cookies which were really good,” said sophomore Khondoker Safeer.
This year, in addition to the normal pizza and snacks, the Class Council of 2027 decided to have Chick-fil-A cater chicken nuggets.
“The Chick-fil-A was very good, but I heard it ran out very fast in the first 25 minutes because it was super popular,” added Chen.
While reflecting on their night, many seniors felt sentimental as this was their last Homecoming.
“I’m a little sad it was my last Homecoming. Every year has been a great experience but I’m glad I got to spend the last one with great friends,” mentioned senior Allison Bonier.
However, for most freshmen, this was their first time attending a high school dance.
“It wasn’t what I expected but it was a good thing in a good way. I’m excited to go again next year though,” said freshman Elyse Buckethal.
Overall, the dance was a memorable night for many students and an opportunity for them to dance and spend time with their friends.
