As the days get chillier and clothes get heavier, students at Marriotts Ridge are blending their sense of style by mixing and matching cozy layers, keeping them comfortable and warm throughout the school days. The winter season can be a joyful period for many students at MRHS as they start to layer their outfits and express themselves.
“I try to have my own ideas on what I want to wear. Color coding and accessorising will always step my game up with outfits, especially with certain coats and hats for the winter,” senior Lucas Chavez shares.
Fashion can be expressed in diverse ways, but it ultimately comes down to the person who wears it. Style and flair are constructed from an individual’s preferences and personality. Color combinations, outfit dynamics and accessories can represent a person’s individuality and uniqueness. Winter-appropriate clothing gives students opportunities to try new styles. Apparel like hoodies, beanies, knit sweaters, cargo pants and sweatpants make an iconic appearance every winter season, making students look fashionable and warm.
“Layering is my favorite technique. It keeps me so warm through the cold weather and also turns out very cute,” junior Kelly Swenson states.
Layering is the main key to surviving through the unpredictable weather in Maryland. It combines practicality with style. By starting with a base layer, then adding middle layers like sweaters or flannels, insulation can be created. Layering allows for creativity, where it is easy to mix colors, styles, textures and create a personalized look. Students get to be versatile with layering due to the various combinations of outfits, creating many utilizations for different kinds of clothes, adding to the fun of fashion.
“Puffer jackets are my new favorite trend because they mix style with warmth,” freshman Casey Pak says.
Puffer jackets are seen as a winter staple since they combine functionality with style. Oversized puffers are very popular among the students, offering warmth, while simultaneously allowing for trendy fashion. These jackets have a comfortable padded design that keeps students cozy in the freezing temperatures, but adds a statement element to any outfit while being easy to style. Brands and companies take advantage of this iconic piece of winter clothing by creating or selling their own unique styles, such as the viral North Face puffer jacket.
“My favorite places to shop for winter clothes have to be Hollister for their affordable hoodies, Aerie for their cute sweaters and Uggs for their winter boots,” junior Siri Makam exclaims.
A few popular companies provide excellent choices at different price points for students who want to keep warm and fashionable this winter. For reasonably priced sweatshirts that blend casual style and comfort, Hollister is a favorite. Their options are both reasonably priced and adaptable, whether students are looking for a soft fleece-lined hoodie or a conventional logo hoodie. The adorable and warm sweaters from Aerie, on the other hand, stand out because of their fun designs that layer well. UGG remains strong in winter footwear due to its soft inside and sturdy construction. These boots keep feet toasty on the coldest days and go along with many outfits.
Winter at Marriotts Ridge is a chance for students to be able to showcase their style while staying comfortable and warm. With the right mix of layers, staples and accessories, students are able to experiment with their styles and new trends. There are endless ways to make a cold weather wardrobe functional and stylish. This season is the moment to embrace creativity through outfits while keeping warm through the weather.
