As winter fades and the days grow longer, Marriotts Ridge High School prepares for an exciting season of spring sports. From the crack of the bat on the baseball field to the swift sprints on the track, student-athletes are ready to demonstrate their talent and determination in the upcoming season.
Both baseball and softball teams are ready to step up to the plate this season. After months of off season training, the players are ready to build on last year’s performances.
“I think we’re going to be great- we’re a great young scrappy team. Our biggest challenge is going to be beating our rivals like Hebron and Glenelg. We have been practicing the game motions, doing infield/outfield drills and hitting the balls off other pitchers. Coaches are amazing- they treat everyone with respect. It’s looking like a great season,” junior Malcom Parson exclaimed.
The allied softball team is also gearing up for a competitive season, emphasizing teamwork and inclusivity. The teams have been focusing on refining their skills, strengthening team chemistry and preparing for intense matchups ahead. Players are excited to hone their skills and enjoy the camaraderie that makes the sport special.
Boys and girls lacrosse continue to be among the most competitive sports at Marriotts Ridge. With experienced returning players and promising newcomers, both teams aim to dominate their divisions.
“We are looking for a state championship, last year we missed the state semi finals and fell a little short, but we are looking to avenge that this year. [During practice] we get into line drills to work on our stick skill, and then we do ground balls, individuals, and then we go six on six. We have a solid team, lots of good players, excellent coaches, they’re very motivating and dedicated,” senior Scott Larson stated.
The fast-paced nature of lacrosse, combined with strong defensive strategies and offensive precision, makes for an exciting season ahead.
The track and field team is set to race into action with athletes competing in sprints and distance races, hurdles, long jump, high jump shot put and more. The sport demands an intense combination of speed, strength, endurance and technique. Athletes face various challenges such as scheduling and dietary constraints, especially during the month of Ramadan.
“I’m looking to break my [personal record], go to regionals and states- maybe even nationals. The team will thrive this year as we have more competition. My biggest challenge and a couple other people on the team’s problem is that we are fasting. 30 days, no food, no water, it makes the practices and meets a lot harder,” senior Tarek Ibrahim asserted.
With precise training schedules and a focus on endurance and technique, the team is determined to break personal and school records this season.
The Marriotts Ridge tennis team is ready to serve up another competitive season.
“The coaches are really supportive of us and we get great feedback- hoping for the best results at regionals and states,” sophomore Dan Lee said.
With key players returning and a strong lineup, they are looking to outmatch their opponents and secure top spots in the county.
As the spring sports season unfolds, anticipation and enthusiasm fill the air at Marriotts Ridge. Student-athletes, coaches and families are eager to witness the dedication and passion that define Mustangs’ sports. Stay tuned for stories from the fields, courts and tracks this season.
