Last year, a devastating rumor spread leaving many students in shock that their beloved teacher, Mr. Sullivan was caught stealing donations from the MRHS food drive. After a thorough investigation, the news was squashed and deemed false; however, new rumors have emerged of Sullivan being a lunch money thief, stealing cash from students’ backpacks in broad daylight.
The new rumors of Sullivan being a thief have brought back past trauma for several students. Being a popular teacher, Mr. Sullivan is well-liked by MRHS. Hearing last year’s news, several students were astonished to hear that he could be a criminal.
“Mr. Sullivan was my favorite teacher. I was so upset when I heard the rumors of him stealing, and to hear that he’s gone back to his old habits makes me even more upset,” senior Sean Zissu said.
Previously, Sullivan had help from an accomplice; however, this year he seems to be acting alone. Several students speculate that he committed the crime right in his classroom. Requiring students to secure their backpacks at the beginning of class, Mr. Sullivan would often be caught in the computer room for several minutes with no explanation, looking incredibly suspicious.
“On the first day of school, Mr. Sullivan asked us to have certain materials and then secure our backpacks. I never thought anything of it, but he would hang out back there for the first five minutes of class and come out with his hands in his pockets,” sophomore Jesus Mirabal mentioned.
Mr. Sullivan has little words to describe the incident; he only denies the incident.
“I do not care to comment on these accusations,” Sullivan said.
Despite consistent denials of these allegations, the rumors have spread too far. Most students know of Mr. Sullivan’s crimes, and are disappointed to say the least.
Still, students are holding out hope for Sullivan’s acquittal, hoping that his career does not come to an end here at MRHS
“He’s my favorite teacher, and I was looking forward to him being my teacher next year. I hope none of the news is true,” junior Brody Jackson commented.
The possibility of probation is not an option for Mr. Sullivan. With this alleged theft being his second offense, confirmation of the crime would result in his immediate dismissal. Many students hope the rumors are false, many believe the rumors are undeniably true; MRHS can only wait to see what happens to Mr. Sullivan in the unforeseeable future.
