Arguably the most anticipated event of the year, an event that had people talking and planning months in advance, Prom finally came and went. Taking place on May 2nd at M&T Bank Exchange, it proved to be a night to remember for countless MRHS students.
Many attended prom with dates, having their prom planned around it through promposals, matching outfits as well as going to photogenic places to take prom pictures together.
“We decided on [wearing] matching colors through the tie and dress” junior Jason Lu explained, “My date made the traditional matching corsage and boutonniere.”
Promposals are a fun way for couples to have an exciting surprise before prom; typically, one would make a poster or get a small gift for their partner to ask if they would like to go to prom with them. Even then, it’s not only for couples, with some people even promposing to their friends.
Many like to go to special places just to get pre-prom pictures. This year, students took to Azalea Gardens in Brighton Dam. With open skies and little roofed areas, many students loved the location, but some found the weather to be a little difficult in the midst of their photos.
“We proposed a meeting and a time for pictures; everything ended up working perfectly,” noted junior Cici Huang, “[We got] rained on in the middle of our photos, but luckily it was one of those summer storms and went by pretty fast. Afterwards, the air was fresh and the sky was beautiful.”
M&T Bank Exchange as a prom venue garnered many positive opinions; countless students enjoyed the location and all that was offered. It was located in Baltimore City, with the inside of the venue having three floors, all decorated under bright, intricate lighting for students to enjoy.
“Everything was a lot better than last year. The venue was more spacious and the setup was ideal to get lots of memorable photos.” senior Subhan Chaudhry positively noted.
Some students felt differently, with a recurring issue among those that hadn’t opted to take a party bus to prom, and had to drive themselves to the venue.
“I didn’t expect the $15 parking fee.” Natalie Shin commented, “I expected everything else, like the traffic.
Overall, prom was a hit. Many students enjoyed themselves, also appreciating the organization and ease of attendance.
“This year’s prom was a lot more organized. The slips for leaving early were efficient and people didn’t have to worry about losing their tickets.” senior Gwen Montgomery stated, referring to the passes given out to those wanting to leave school early on the day of, as well as the abandoned ticket system that was used last year.
After prom this year was hosted at Main Event at the Columbia mall, and featured many games and activities for party-goers to have fun with; a highlight of the night included the raffle ticket prizes.
“The entirety of prom was fun but what [won] it for me was after prom,” continued Lu, “There were a bigger variety of things to do like the raffle, better food and arcade games. [It was a] perfect way to end the night.”
Overall, Prom seemed to be an immensely enjoyable experience for juniors and seniors, and the vibe, festivities and overall atmosphere was a memorable experience that this year’s upperclassmen will remember for years to come.
