December 17th, 2021: the day all Marvel fans were waiting for, the day “Spider-Man No Way Home” comes out. This new Spider-Man movie stars Tom Holland as “Peter Parker” along with Zendaya as “MJ,” Jacob Batalon as “Ned Leeds,” and Benedict Cumberbatch as “Dr. Stephen Strange.” Many fans all around the world, especially here at Marriotts Ridge, are thrilled to see how the new movie is going to turn out.
“Spider-Man Far From Home,” the previous Spider-Man movie, ended on a cliffhanger; Mysterio exposing Spider-Man’s identity to the world. Fans are eager to see how that’s going to play out as well as the old villains coming back. It’s been confirmed that villains from the two previous franchises will return— such as Doc Ock, Green Goblin, Electro, Sandman, and The Lizard— and fans can’t wait. It’s also been rumored and highly anticipated that Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield will reprise their roles as Spider-Man.
“I’m excited; first of all, the trailers have captivated me. I’ve also been a fan of not just the Tom Holland Spider-Man movies but also the Tobey Maguire and the Andrew Garfield movies. Seeing the villains from their trilogies in the trailers is exciting for me.” senior Jay Yodzis said.
Dr. Stephen Strange, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, has significant amounts of screen time in the trailers. From what’s been seen, Peter Parker asks Dr. Strange to cast a spell to make the world forget he was Spider-Man but at the last second changed his mind. Peter messes up the spell, which ends up breaking the multiverse.
“I’m very excited to see Dr. Strange in the new movie, mostly because Spider-Man and Dr. Strange haven’t gotten together that much except for ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ It wasn’t a deep connection though, so I’m interested to see how their worlds are going to combine,” junior Jadyn Kelly said.
Fans have already made their predictions about what they think is going to happen in the new movie and how it’s going to tie in with the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Some think this new movie will expand horizons connecting many different Marvel projects through a theory called the “multiverse.”
“This movie is going to be the first movie to open up the multiverse which is going to lead into the next phase. The next Dr. Strange movie and Ant-Man movie both tie into the multiverse,” junior Alex Lancaster said.
While others have predictions about the multiverse, many fans have their idea about what will happen involving characters. Some fans think characters will die while others think certain characters will come back.
“I think there will be a foreshadowing with how Gwen Stacy dies and the falling parallel. Maybe MJ will be in the same situation as Gwen was and Peter will try to save her. There’s a chance he won’t be able to though so Andrew Garfield might swing in and save her instead because he couldn’t save Gwen,” freshman Rory Taylor said.
The most controversial prediction about the new movie is whether Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will come back. Countless fans think that since the multiverse is now a prevalent variable and the villains from the previous Spider-Man movies are coming back, Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire will too.
“I think Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire will make an appearance, 100%. I’m super excited to see all of them together just to see the different versions of Spider-Man and it’ll also be a cool entrance into the multiverse for other superheroes,” Junior Addie Fylnn said.
Needless to say, fans can’t wait to see the new movie and the wait is almost over. On December 17th Marvel fans, certainly the ones here at Marriotts Ridge, will finally be satisfied when they see “Spider-Man No Way Home!”
